With the NSW drought continuing to spread, and available pasture at an all time low, the need to effectively match stocking rates to available pasture both now and when the drought breaks has never been greater.
Cibo Labs recently spent a few days in the region doing pasture cuts and calibration work on the UNE Smart Farm, and nearby properties. Thanks in particular to Stuart Austin and Bruce McCarthy for helping out. While the biomass levels in August were critically low and dominated by non-photosynthetic (brown) sward, our predictions were stable and within the limits of site-based estimates. Another round of cal/val is being conducted with the spring break.
If you have a research project around Armidale that requires fully calibrated 10m, 13 band imagery every 5 days, or a property that needs weekly estimates of pasture biomass please contact us.
