Cibo Labs is an agricultural data analytics company passionate about supporting farmers and the broader industry to become more profitable, resilient, and sustainable.

 

Established in 2018, our mission is to bring new approaches to measuring, modelling, monitoring and management of Australia's agricultural lands that drive better decisions on-farm and across the industry while also contributing to improving landscape health. We combine on-farm knowledge with world-leading science in remote sensing, animal monitoring, machine learning and high-performance computing to provide new levels of understanding to every livestock farm in Australia.

 

Cibo Labs is leading the commercial adoption of pasture monitoring services across Australia’s livestock industry. We deliver services across more than 50 million hectares on a weekly basis, and work across supply chains with producers, processors, and industry organisations. We are also expanding our services to international markets.

Position: Cloud Engineer (multiple roles)
 

Responsibilities

The Cloud Engineer will be administering, maintaining, and supporting applications, hardware and configurations deployed globally across our Amazon Web Services footprint and performing a wide variety of software/hardware configuration/maintenance and operational support tasks of our AWS Infrastructure.

 

The position will be focused on engineering and re-imagining our global satellite imagery product and related data processing and backup pipelines, building and deploying CI/CD and QA frameworks and driving active monitoring and reporting of our cloud environments. The position will also require maintaining and automating data scraping and harvesting frameworks and maintaining APIs for our internal use and B2B integration with AgTech Partners.

 

Desired knowledge, skills and experience

  • Five years of IT/Engineering experience.

  • Deep understanding of AWS - have worked with it in a commercial environment and know it well. Recognized AWS certifications will be highly regarded

  • Highly proficient with implementing and administering AWS.

  • Want to automate everything - never do the same thing twice.

  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines

  • Good working knowledge of scripting languages such as Bash and Python

  • Familiarity with GIS data formats and standards (for raster, vector and metadata)

  • Able to write software to implement GIS workflows (basic to intermediate development skills)

Position: Front End Engineer / Web Developer

 

Responsibilities

The front-end engineer will be responsible for connecting Cibo Labs satellite imagery pipelines with users across the full gamut of agricultural industries giving a seamless and intuitive user experience. This will include

 

  • Maintaining existing products with best practices in software development including automated testing and code documentation.

  • Implementing and documenting new features within the existing web-based applications and build out new applications including dashboards and web-mapping and editing applications.

  • Provide estimated schedules and low fidelity UI designs which satisfy requirements involved in the development of new features, products or smaller scale applications.

  • Collaborate with data scientists, database developers, platform engineers, spatial systems analysts and principal scientist to deliver solutions.

 

Desired knowledge, skills and experience

  • Extensive experience with geospatial front ends such as leaflet, WMS, mapping and charting libraries

  • Experience in Single Page Application development

  • Experience in Angular / ReactJS / VueJS & NodeJS

  • Excellent knowledge of Javascript/CSS/HTML

  • Able to use version control to effectively manage code in a team environment.

  • Candidates with UX skills will be highly regarded

 

Position: Database Developer Engineer

 

Responsibilities

The Database Developer Engineer will be key in designing, building and optimising Cibo Labs AWS data pipelines from the ground up, improving the quality, access, and usage of our data for consumers, and customers. You will support our engineers, scientists, and internal customers on data initiatives, and ensure optimal data delivery architecture is consistent throughout ongoing projects and ensure the reliability, availability and security of systems and data

 

The ideal candidate is an experienced data pipeline builder and data wrangler who enjoys optimising data systems and building them from the ground up. You will support our Geoscience data acquisition, processing, interpretation, and data delivery operations.

 

  • Engineer whole of customer data, statistics, subscription, and billing frameworks

  • Engineer authentication flow across multiple platforms

  • Engineer APIs across Cibo Labs applications and integration with AgTech Partners

  • Maintenance of subscription and payment gateways

  • Maintenance of field data collection apps and gateways.

 

Desired knowledge, skills and experience

  • Strong logic and scripting knowledge in Python and SQL

  • Tertiary qualification in Computer Science, IT, Maths, Data Science, or the equivalent

  • Deep hands-on experience with Postgresql

  • Excellent DevOps skills on AWS including Aurora Serverless Postgresql and Lambda

  • Keen interest in the prospect of optimising or even re-designing our company’s data architecture to support our next generation of products and data initiatives

  • Experience as a Data Engineer or in a similar role

  • Able to use version control to effectively manage code in a team environment.

 

Position: Geodata Specialist

 

Responsibilities

The Geodata Specialist will work closely with the Principal Scientist and our small team on the research, development, and implementation of novel approaches to measuring, modelling, monitoring and management of Australia's agricultural lands. You will work also closely with our AgTech and research partners and key clients to bring world-leading science to the agricultural sector.

 

The ideal candidate will have knowledge and experience in remote sensing in grazed savanna ecosystems including familiarity with Sentinel 2 and other key remotely sensed data.

 

  • Undertake sensor and processing improvements

  • Build and maintain our baseline remote sensing product database

  • Integrate long term landscape and climate products into predictive workflows

  • Assist in building grazing land management and land condition monitoring frameworks and tools

  • Undertake machine learning model testing/training and deployment

  • Capture, process, and maintain spatial data linked to remote sensing data

 

Desired knowledge, skills and experience

  • Experienced in SQL for querying and management of data. Experience with Postgres and Postgres extensions preferred.

  • Experienced in Python, pandas, numpy, scikit-learn, matplotlib, seaborn, keras and Tensorflow for data analysis, wrangling and machine learning.

  • Experience in productionising machine learning models.

  • Experience in AWS tools including S3, Quicksight, EC2 and Lambda.

  • Experience in BigQuery and Google Data Studio

  • Experience visualizing and interacting with spatial data in a leaflet environment.

  • Experience with GIS tools including QGIS, ESRI, GDAL, rasterio and rios.

  • Knowledgeable in foundational statistics.

  • Able to use version control to effectively manage code in a team environment.

Position: Adoption and Extension Managers (Grazing Technologies)

 

Responsibilities

The Adoption and Extension Manager (Grazing Technologies) will be part of a dynamic team that are passionate about improving the profitability and sustainability of our grazing industry work through the adoption of world-leading technologies. The National Feedbase Monitor Platform is going to provide every red meat producer in Australia with access to satellite-derived estimates of pasture biomass. This role will develop and implement a program of communication, awareness, extension, and adoption activities aimed at supporting livestock producers to use the systems and make more informed grazing management and business decisions.

 

  • Develop and implement an extension and adoption plan in collaboration with MLA and the project team

  • Development and implement communications and MER plans.

  • Establish and coordinate stakeholder reference group/s

  • Develop user guides, training and communications material

  • Provide technical support to users

  • Deliver awareness raising presentations and train-the-trainer sessions.

  • Represent the team at events, meetings and other forums and to contribute to project planning and reporting.

  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with farmers, stakeholders, industry partners and organisations to achieve program objectives.

 

Desired knowledge, skills and experience

  • Degree in Agriculture, Natural Resource Management, or other relevant discipline

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the livestock grazing industry, and experience in the application of AgTech in the industry.

  • Demonstrated passion and motivation for helping graziers adopt improved practices and technologies

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively to support the adoption of improved practices and technologies.

  • Proven experience in developing, delivering, and evaluating extension and adoption programs

  • High-level organisational skills, including the ability to organize and prioritise work activities in a demanding, busy environment, including demonstrated attention to detail.

  • Current Driver Licence and the ability and willingness to travel.
