28 July 2024

28 July 2024

Winter rainfall across eastern Australia and in southwest Western Australia has made a significant difference to growing conditions. Rainfall totals in excess of 100mm for the month have allowed the feedbase to respond with early growth and a general increase in total standing dry matter amounts.

18 May 2024

18 May 2024

The national feedbase imagery from the 18th of May shows the continued accumulation of biomass across the northern portion of the Northern Territory and Northwest areas of Queensland. It is evident that the drawn-out wet season and milder conditions in the recent months have allowed growth to continue, which has extended to the southeast of Queensland and along the NSW coast. However, Western Australia, Tasmania and parts of South Australia still lack the conditions to support meaningful biomass growth.

2 May 2024

Nationally, biomass levels remain steady or slightly improved as a result of recent weather events, particularly in the northern and eastern parts of the country. As many graziers & land managers have noted, pasture mass levels in some areas are well above the long-term average, while significant areas of growth in response to rainfall are noted across eastern Australia.

2 February 2024

Over the past two weeks, conditions for herbage mass have been very favourable across the eastern half of NSW, Qld and much of Victoria. The ongoing improvement has seen much of the country now meeting the average or above average seasonal deciles for January.

19 January 2024

19 January 2024

During the final two weeks of December 2023, seasonal conditions in many regions have continued to improve. Pasture biomass has accumulated throughout the eastern half of NSW, Victoria, north-eastern Tasmania and from Cape York to southeast Queensland. Significant rainfall in Queensland, from both ex tropical cyclone Jasper and severe storm events in southern Queensland and Northern NSW have contributed to the increases in fractional cover, however biomass accumulation will take some time to alter TSDM levels in some regions.

20th December 2023

20th December 2023

The gradual decline in national biomass levels which has been a feature of recent updates now appears to have eased with robust growth events on the back of recent storms and rainfall events across Northern NSW, Queensland, and the Northern Territory.

6 December 2023

6 December 2023

Rainfall events over the past two weeks have been recorded over the eastern states, Northern Territory, eastern South Australia, and parts of Western Australia. Some storm events have recorded totals in excess of 100mm with a number of locations exceeding these totals. The Bureau of Metrology reports that November rainfall for the nation was 37.8% above the 1961-1990 average.

22nd November 2023

22nd November 2023

Scattered storms and showers over the eastern portion of the continent have helped to reduce the rate of pasture decline. Looking at the national position, there have been only slight changes in the level of total standing Dry Matter in the past two weeks, reflecting the variation in rainfall and the ongoing bushfire impact in several states.
